Lucretia Howitt

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Lucretia Howitt, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, on August 4, 2026. Lucretia was born on June 10, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, to Severo Saylon and Bertha Williams. Her life was a testament to the enduring love and compassion she shared with everyone around her. Lucretia was a dedicated nurse whose career spanned several decades, beginning at St. Joseph's Hospital in Clinton Township and later moving to Henry Ford Urgent Care in Sterling Heights, as well as various nursing home facilities. Her nurturing spirit and commitment to caring for others left an indelible mark on all those she served. A graduate of St. Martin High School in 1953, Lucretia's passion for helping others led her to nursing school at Sini Grace Hospital, where she earned her degree in 1977. Her career was not just a profession but a calling that she fulfilled with grace and dedication. Lucretia was predeceased by her loving husband, Ken Howitt, and her brothers and sisters: George, Severo "JR" Saylon, Juana Pinto, Sherri Lazzaro, Flora Schmitz, Angie Sutton, as well as her dear grandson, Gavin Howitt. She is survived by her devoted children, Ken (Debra) Howitt, Sean (Andrea) Howitt, and Karen (Joe) Mazure, who will forever cherish her memory. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Ken Howitt III, Christopher Howitt, Niko Cardenas, Tristen Howitt, and Colin Howitt, and her great-grandchild, Lily Cardenas. For over 25 years, Lucretia was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church/Ave Maria Parish in Port Sanilac, Michigan and now is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clair, Michigan. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing strength and guidance throughout her journey. Lucretia found joy in the simple things, like getting up at the crack of dawn to enjoy a round of golf, diving into a good book, or tackling a challenging crossword puzzle. Her Christmas cookies and pies were legendary, a testament to her love for baking and sharing happiness through her culinary creations. Despite her quiet and reserved nature, Lucretia possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a passion for traveling and shopping. A funeral service in her honor will be held on August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, located at 415 N 6th St, St Clair, MI 48079. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Lucretia's kindness and compassion are invited to celebrate her life and legacy. As we say goodbye to Lucretia, we carry forward her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those she cherished. Her memory will remain forever etched in our hearts.
