February 9, 1955 — May 5, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Lucinda Marshall Dowdell, who departed this world peacefully on May 5, 2026. Born on February 9, 1955, in Indianapolis, Lucinda was a guiding light in our lives, whose warmth and elegance touched everyone she met. Lucinda was the cherished daughter of the late Robert Marshall and Minnie Lee Marshall. Her early years were marked by a deep-seated sense of family and community, values she carried with her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved son Robert Anthony Crider, and her siblings, Earl Marshall, Michael Greer and Earnestine Fulton, who she spoke of often and held dearly in her heart. She was educated in the IPS schooling system and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1973. In 1990, on Valentine's Day, Lucinda married the love of her life, Joe Dowdell. Together, they built a life. Lucinda took her passion for caring for others to another level by attending Purdue University School of Nursing where she received her RN BSN in 1996. Lucinda was an excellent and devoted grandmother to five grandchildren: Adira Crider, Azairius Davis, Aria Crider, Aiden Crider, and Derek Russell Jr. Her grandchildren were her greatest delight, and she spent countless hours with them, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Her home was often filled with the aroma of her delicious cooking, a testament to her love of gathering family around the table. Lucinda also had a passion for shopping and could turn denium into gold (lol). She often used her knack for shopping as an opportunity to spoil her loved ones. A woman of grace, sass, punk and kindness, Lucinda was known for her classy demeanor and her unwavering dedication to helping those around her. Her family and friends knew they could always count on her for support, advice, compassionate ear and sometimes the naked truth. She was a proud member of the New Life Christian Church in Indianapolis, where her faith was both a source of strength and a guiding force in her life. Lucinda leaves behind her husband Joe, her daughters Christina Covington, Sara Miller, daughter in law Aaron Ivey (widow of Robert) and her grandchildren Adira, Aria, Azairius, Aiden and DJ. She is also survived by her sisters, Alma Jean Bewaji and Roberta Rowley, along with a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly. A Homegoing celebration of Lucinda's beautiful life will be held on May 16, 2026, veiwing at 10:00 and services at 12:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Brown Funeral Home, as well as to all the friends and family who have offered their love and support during this difficult time. Lucinda's legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her light will continue to shine brightly through her family and the countless lives she touched. Rest in peace, dear Mom. You will be forever loved and missed.
