Lucille Stewart

May 30, 1933 — November 1, 2026

Lucille Stewart, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away on November 1, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with an infection. Born on May 30, 1933, in Warsaw, NC, Lucille was the beloved daughter of Mary Smith and James Williams. Her journey was marked by resilience, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community. Lucille's life was a testament to the power of love and generosity. She married Edward Stewart in North Carolina, and together they embarked on a new chapter in Brooklyn, New York. There, they lovingly raised their children: William, Gloria, Mary, Edward Jr., and Kirby. Lucille's family continued to blossom, and she leaves behind a legacy of ten grandchildren—Kiesha, who was both a granddaughter and a daughter to her, Craig, Dremeche, Rashima, Damien, Anitra, Marc, Natasha, Jason, and Hakeem, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Her brother, Bobby Earl, also survives her. Although her formal education was limited, Lucille achieved many of her dreams. She owned two homes, learned to drive, and became a dedicated Home Health Aid, providing care with unconditional love and gratitude. Her career was driven by a deep compassion for those in need, a quality that resonated through every aspect of her life. After retiring in 1999, Lucille relocated to Camden, SC, where she continued to touch the lives of those around her. She was a devoted member of Edwards Chapel for over two decades, participating in numerous activities and offering her time selflessly. Her love for cooking, especially baking cakes from scratch, was well-known, as was her willingness to assist neighbors with errands and lend an attentive ear. Lucille's kindness knew no bounds. She had an incredible ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. Her generosity extended beyond her family; she fed the hungry, washed the clothes of those in need, and provided new attire for those with tattered garments. Lucille's heart was as big as her smile, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy to all who knew her. Predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Edward, her son Franklin, her grandson Edward III (affectionately known as Eddie), and brother Pete, Lucille's spirit remains alive in the hearts of her family and friends. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the caregivers at MUSC for their compassionate care during her final days. In honor of Lucille's memory, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others. As they mourn her passing, they cherish her legacy, holding her forever in their hearts. Lucille Stewart's life was a beautiful melody, resonating with love, kindness, and an enduring faith. Her memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
