Lucille Searles (Talbert) Obituary It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Lucille Searles (Talbert) on August 8, 2026. Born on April 5, 1933, in McCormick, South Carolina, Lucille was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her 93 years. Lucille was the beloved daughter of Jero and Effie Talbert (Sibert) and shared her early years with her siblings in the close-knit community of McCormick. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, Willie Lee, John, and Claude, and her dear sister, Doris. Her legacy of love and compassion is carried forward by her devoted husband of 74 years, George Searles Jr., her cherished daughters Bobbi Laster (Gregory) and JoAnn Rogers (Will), and her grandchildren Marques C. McHerrin and the late Donnie Miller. Her great-grandchildren Felicia, Quecia, Alexis, Najee, Kierra, Taviah, Morgan, and Donnie, along with six great-great-grandchildren, will continue to honor her memory. Lucille's story with George began at Mims High School in McCormick, where a youthful romance blossomed into a lifelong partnership. In 1952, the young couple ventured to Buffalo, New York, in search of new opportunities, eventually building a home and a life filled with love and laughter. Her professional journey began once her daughters reached school age, marking the start of a long and fulfilling career. Lucille held positions at Mohawk Manor, 50 High Street Cafe, and Hotel Lafayette before dedicating many years to the Erie County Medical Center, where she retired in 2006. Faith was the cornerstone of Lucille's life. After moving to Buffalo, she and her family joined Saint's Home Church of God in Christ under Bishop Carl Roberson in 1957, remaining dedicated members throughout the years. Lucille's love for gardening was renowned, with her home often celebrated by Buffalo in Bloom for its vibrant and beautiful floral displays. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her garden; she was known for her friendly conversations, bestowing nicknames upon those she met, and affectionately earning the moniker "Momma Lue" from many who knew her. Though homebound in her later years, Lucille maintained her zest for life through her passion for shopping and her unwavering love for people. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. A celebration of Lucille's life will be held on August 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at True Bethel Baptist Church, located at 472 Swan Street, Buffalo, NY 14204. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has shown support and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucille's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to honor her loving spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others.
