Lucille Maynor
October 27, 1940 — June 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Lucille Maynor, who peacefully departed this world on June 16, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on October 27, 1940, in the warm and welcoming town of Ensley, Alabama, Lucille was the cherished daughter of the late James Daniel Rice and Rosa Lee Rice. She has now joined them in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever be cherished.
Lucille’s journey began in Alabama, but it was in Detroit, Michigan, where she attended Eastern High School, that she began to lay the foundation for a life dedicated to family, faith, and community. Her career took her to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for several years as a devoted receptionist and medical assistant to Dr. Chen. Her professionalism and compassionate nature left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate to work alongside her.
A woman of deep faith, Lucille was a devoted member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. Her angelic voice graced the Women's Chorus, where she sang alongside her beloved sister, Catherine. Her contributions to the church community were numerous, and her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
Lucille had a passion for cooking that was as rich as the dishes she prepared with love. Her sweet potato pies and pot roasts were legendary, bringing comfort and joy to family gatherings and community events. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, where stories were shared, and laughter was abundant.
Family was the cornerstone of Lucille’s life. She was a devoted mother to her five sons: Robert (Tracy) Champion, Darryl (Prescilla) Champion, Rodney (Dawn) Champion, Reginald (Twana) Maynor, and Timothy (Shamika) Maynor. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support shaped them into the men they are today. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and the loving great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Lucille is survived by her siblings, brother Ralph (Deidra) Rice and sister Catherine Fountain, who mourn the loss of their beloved sister while cherishing the countless memories they shared. Her family extends beyond blood, encompassing a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at the Dialysis Center for the compassionate care they provided Lucille in her final years. Though she has left this world, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her and through the lives she touched.
In honoring Lucille’s memory, let us remember her as a beacon of love and resilience—a woman whose presence was a blessing to all who knew her. Though we grieve her absence, we celebrate a life well-lived and a love that will endure forever.
Rest in peace, dear Lucille. You will be deeply missed, yet forever remembered.
