Lowell Mason Murphy Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on September 5, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on June 14, 1959, in South Bend, Indiana, Mason, as he was affectionately called, was a beacon of joy and warmth to all who were fortunate to know him. Mason was the loving son of the late Lowell Mason Murphy Sr. and Alzate Murphy. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Mark Murphy; his uncle, Lonnie Daniels Walker; his son, Lowell “Dewey” Mason Murphy III; his grandsons, Robert Devon Willis III and Deontae Murphy; his nieces, Kendra Murphy and Lejunia Bird; and his nephews, Zigfreid Davis Sr. and Magic Murphy. Despite these profound losses, Mason's spirit remained resilient, driven by the love of his surviving family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his children: Theresa Evans, Shawana Murphy, Robert Willis, Ne'Shawna Murphy, Amanda Baker-Whitmore, Ashley Murphy, Martell Murphy, Major Murphy, Terrica Young, and Timara Lauderdale. He was a proud grandfather to 28 grandchildren and a doting great-grandfather to 7 great-grandchildren, who will all carry forward his memory and love. Mason’s siblings—Glenda Murphy-Buchanon, Beverly Dempsey (Kenny), Debbie Murphy (Bill), Donna Murphy, Stacey Murphy, and Lisa Murphy—along with his aunts, Elizabeth Harris, Ethelean Birdie, and Hattie Parker, and his uncle, Andrew Harris, will forever treasure the moments shared with him. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including a special cousin, Ronald White, and a longtime special friend, Angela Carruthers, whose lives were enriched by his presence. He attended John Adams High School and pursued his passion for caring for others by completing his CNA training at Fountainview Care Center in Mishawaka, Indiana. His dedication and compassion left an indelible mark on those he served. Mason was the embodiment of joy and laughter, known for his charismatic, “life of the party” personality. Always impeccably dressed in his favorite hats and suits, he had a knack for making everyone smile with his jokes. He found joy in cooking, riding his bike, playing basketball, and enjoying his "white coffee" while listening to the smooth tunes of The Whispers. Among his most cherished activities was fishing with his brother Michael, an experience he held close to his heart. As we gather to remember Mason, we hold dear the family’s prayer: "Loving God, You sent Your Son who bore our sins and took upon Himself the weight of our sorrows. Forgive us when we seek comfort in things that cannot truly heal our pain. Help us to find rest in Your embrace, where our weary hearts can be soothed, and where Your grace lifts the burdens that feel heavy to carry alone." Mason's laughter, love, and unwavering spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
