Wyonia Pruitt McCray

May 1, 1940 — October 20, 2026

Wyonia Pruitt McCray was born May 1, 1940 to the late Willie Pruitt and Eliza Holified in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She later moved to Birmingham and married William McCray. In that union four children were born, Michael, Richard, Floyd and Dianner McCray. Wyonia confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age allowing him to be her sure foundation, strength and guide. She loved church, she moved to sing, and she loved the Lord and never went without a church home to worship. Upon moving to Birmingham she joined New Rising Star Baptist Church and remained for many years serving and singing in the choir until she transitioned to St. John Baptist Church to continue her kingdom work. She served faithfully on the usher board, kitchen and missionary ministry. After moving to Tarrant, Wyonia found a new church home, McDowell Memorial Cumberland Presbyterian where she served until her health declined/ Wyonia affectionately know as "WY" or "Blackey" was a hard worker4, dedicat4ed in service to others, a loving Mom, Grandmother and friend. Throughout her years she was able to use her gift of cooking to provide services to others. Her hands were never afraid of hard work, and her heart reflected the compassion and commitment she showed to others. Through her labor, she demonstrated strength, humility, perseverance, and love providing in-home health care for many years for those unable to care for themselves. Her legacy is one of a life well lived. A woman who workedf faithfully, served selflessly, and left behind a lasting example of dignity, resilience and devotion to others. On October 20, 2026 Wyonia exchanged this earthly labor for a heavenly reward, leaving a void in our hearts but many to cherish her memory. I’m Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee, God wanted me now; He set me free.
