Tondala Carmichael-Byrd

With heavy hearts and unwavering faith, we celebrate the life and legacy of Tondie "TeeTee” Byrd, who peacefully departed this life on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 4:20 p.m. Born on December 5, 1963, Tondie was the youngest of four daughters born to the late Geraldine Hinmon Cropper and the late Elmer Cropper. As the baby of the family, she brought joy, laughter, and love to those around her from an early age. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Geraldine Hinmon Cropper and Elmer Cropper, and her cherished sister, Sandra Robinson. Above all else, Tondie cherished her family. She was the devoted and loving mother of two children, Quantrell and Shontell, whom she adored with all her heart. While her children were her greatest blessings, nothing brought a brighter smile to her face than her grandchildren. They were truly the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent loving, nurturing, and creating lasting memories with them. Tondie dedicated many years of faithful service to both WAWA and Decora Factory in New Jersey, where she was known for her strong work ethic and genuine care for others. Later, she relocated to Virginia Eastern Shore to be closer to her parents, lovingly helping care for them during their later years—a true reflection of her selfless and compassionate heart. In 2011, she found love again and married Edward Byrd. Together they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and faithful companionship. Through life's joys and challenges, they remained by each other's side, creating cherished memories and finding comfort in one another's presence. As she navigated health challenges, Tondie discovered a new passion—cooking. Through her meals, she did far more than feed people; she comforted, encouraged, and loved them. Her kitchen became a place where friendships were formed, burdens were lightened, and countless hearts were touched. Her food carried the same warmth and generosity that defined her spirit. Affectionately known to so many as "TT", she became a mother figure to countless people beyond her own family. Her wisdom, nurturing spirit, listening ear, and unwavering encouragement made everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. She had an extraordinary gift for making people feel like family, and her kindness left an imprint on every life she encountered. Her final place of employment was Stuckey's, where she became well known and deeply loved by coworkers, customers, and friends alike. Her welcoming smile, infectious personality, and genuine compassion made her unforgettable. Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in knowing that her legacy of love, service, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family will live on through everyone she touched. Her life reminds us that the greatest measure of a person is not found in what they possess, but in how deeply they love others. Tondie leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by her beloved husband, Edward Byrd; her children, Quantrell Cropper and Shontell Carmichael; her treasured grandchildren, Terron Foster, Tyree Ransom, Zaviana Brown, and Ahsani Brown; her sisters, Fayquetta Clemmons (Robert), Pamela Cropper, Shelly Combs, and Clayshia Rainey (Jerome); her brother, Ralph Johnson (Lorretta); two special sisters, Donna Gamble and Urlean Green; two uncles; two aunts; extended family; and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, two godchildren, Vershawn and Lakeis; cousins; dear friends; and three children she loved as her own: Nevaeh, Christine, and Michael. She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed. Yet her love, her laughter, her smile, her wisdom, and the memories she created will remain in our hearts forever.
