It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Lottie (Dottie) Carroll Steelberg, who departed this world on May 26, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on October 1, 1927, in New Rochelle, NY, Dottie was a beacon of love and kindness, known for her unwavering dedication to family and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Dottie was the cherished daughter of Lottie Zinck and Bernard Carroll. Growing up in a vibrant household with 13 siblings, she learned early on the values of compassion, resilience, and selflessness—qualities she carried throughout her life. Despite the challenges, she pursued her education with determination, proudly achieving her GED later in life. Her early sacrifice to care for her family was a testament to her nurturing spirit, which continued to touch countless lives. In 1954, Dottie married the love of her life, Walter I. Steelberg, with whom she shared a deep and enduring partnership until his passing. Together, they built a family rooted in love, raising their daughters, Karen and Christina, with unwavering devotion. Although Christina preceded her in death, Dottie's love for her children and family never wavered. Dottie's career journey led her to Hummel Tree Service, where she formed a cherished friendship with Robert McGrath. Her work was not just a vocation but an extension of her generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand and support those in need. She was a steadfast contributor to numerous charitable organizations, particularly those supporting cancer research and aiding the homeless. Her legacy of giving will continue to inspire all who knew her. The heart of Dottie's life was undoubtedly her family. She leaves behind a rich legacy through her beloved daughter Karen, her brother David (Butch) and his wife Laura, and her nephew Robert Steelberg. Her grandchildren, Michelle Leavy, Lorianne Wong (Carlos), and Tyler Steelberg, along with her great-grandchildren, Aidan, Liam, Carlos (Xavier), and Logan, were her pride and joy. Dottie took immense pleasure in watching them grow, always offering guidance, love, and her infectious laughter. Dottie's kindness extended beyond her immediate family. She shared a special bond with her nephew Anthony (Tony) Umbro, who held a dear place in her heart, and she was blessed with the care and companionship of her devoted caregivers, Elizabeth and Icilma. Their unwavering support brought comfort to Dottie in her final years, for which her family is eternally grateful. As we bid farewell to our beloved Dottie, we invite family and friends to join us in celebrating her life at Lloyd Maxcy Funeral Home, located at 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY 10801, on June 1, 2026, at 4:00 PM. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available at www.lloydmaxcy.com. In memory of Dottie's generous spirit, the family requests donations be made to organizations dedicated to cancer research and supporting the homeless, causes that were close to her heart. As we gather to honor Dottie, let us remember her favorite psalm, Psalm 23, a testament to her faith and the comfort it brought her throughout her life. Her final words, "wait, I'm coming," remind us of her readiness to join her loved ones who have gone before her, secure in the knowledge of a life well-lived and a soul at peace. Dottie Carroll Steelberg's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her memory is a blessing, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
