Lorraine Lahela Higa, a cherished member of the Waimanalo community, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on February 1, 1935, in the serene surroundings of Molokai, Hawaii, Lorraine was the beloved daughter of Jesse K. Peelua and Eva L. Peelua. Her life was a testament to love, kindness, and the enduring power of family and friendship. Lorraine was married to the love of her life, Nobuo Higa, on November 24, 1951. Their union, which spanned 58 beautiful years, was blessed with six children: Kimberly Higa, Nobuo Higa Jr. (Marilyn), Robert Dana Higa (Tina), Lori Higa, Leoda Shizuma (Mike), and Vanessa Hulihee. Her legacy continues through her 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren each a testament to the love and values she instilled in her family. A dedicated worker, Lorraine spent her career in various roles that brought joy and service to others. From driving at Honey and Les Lunch Wagon to waitressing at the Flamingo Chuck Wagon, and later working at the Wiki Wiki Bus at the Airport and Gomes School Bus Service, Lorraine always found fulfillment in her work and made lasting connections everywhere she went. Lorraine's heart was as vibrant as her life. She was an active member of the Waimanalo Senior Citizens Club and shared her love of Hawaiian culture through dance with Hula Halau O Pua A'ala Hone and Hula Halau 'O Pua Loke. Her joy for life was infectious, and her gatherings with friends and family were always filled with laughter and warmth. Known for her generous spirit, Lorraine was the kind of person who would give her last dollar to help someone in need. Even as arthritis began to slow her down, Lorraine's spirit remained unyielding. She continued to care for those around her, driving friends to appointments and church, and was a cherished companion on many outings. Her unwavering kindness and love for those around her will be remembered by all who knew her. Lorraine is predeceased by her beloved husband, Nobuo Higa, and her siblings Harriet "Hattie" Silva, Elizabeth "Kanani" Negrillo, Jessie "Leilani" Wallace, Earlene Johnston, and Jesse Peelua Jr. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and strive to honor her legacy of love and compassion. A service to celebrate Lorraine's remarkable life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church, located at 41-1323 Kalaniana'ole Hwy, Waimanalo, HI 96795. Lorraine Lahela Higa will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts and lives of all she knew.
