In Loving Memory

Lorraine Jean (Diels) Moats
December 14, 1960 — July 5, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorraine Jean (Diels) Moats, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Lorraine departed this world peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 65, surrounded by her loving family after bravely battling cancer.
Born on December 14, 1960, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Lorraine was the cherished daughter of Hilmer and Mildred Diels. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dear brother, Edward (Eddy) Diels. Lorraine is survived by her devoted husband, Marty Moats of Virginia, who stood by her side through life's many adventures.
Lorraine’s legacy lives on through her children: Jason Wheeler of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; Rebecka Ward and her fiancé Brent Harmsen of Waupun, Wisconsin; Dawn Rush of Fairfax, Virginia; Donna Rush of Crossville, Tennessee; Brenda and Rick Merling of Belleville, Texas; Brent and Jessica Rush of Omak, Washington; and Aries Moats and his fiancée Sheilah Buckholz of Broadway, Virginia. Her heart was further enriched by her grandchildren: Jesse, Austin, Danielle, Jason, Josh Jr., Blake Hill, Skylar, Veronica, Ryker, Kasey, Amber, Kyle, Justin, Isaac, Austin S, and Jaycee Lou, as well as her great-grandchildren Thorin, Orion, and Marshall.
Lorraine’s life was filled with joy, laughter, and a sense of community. She thrived in retail, finding particular joy in her role at a local Pizza Hut, where she delighted in the fast-paced environment and camaraderie with colleagues. An active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaver Dam, Lorraine's faith was a guiding light throughout her life, even after moving away.
A lover of the great outdoors, Lorraine found solace in nature, camping under the stars, and savoring the simple joys of life. She had a passion for holiday baking, bringing sweetness and warmth to every gathering. Assembling puzzles, especially those with Scooby Doo and cat themes, brought her immense joy and satisfaction. Lorraine’s home was a sanctuary of love, where her infectious sense of humor and abundant compassion enveloped all who entered.
Lorraine’s presence was a gift to everyone who knew her, and her kind and loving heart will be deeply missed by her Bother Charles and Sister In-Law, Nancy Diels along with close friends, Liz Plageman, and Pat and Duke Derke, among many others who were touched by her life.
In honor of Lorraine’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, for their compassionate care and support during Lorraine’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, celebrating Lorraine’s generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
As we remember Lorraine, let us carry forward her legacy of kindness, laughter, and love, cherishing the memories she created and the lives she touched.

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
