In Loving Memory

Lori E Mitchell James
December 3, 1967 — September 16, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Lori E Mitchell James on September 16, 2026. Born on December 3, 1967, in Philadelphia, PA, Lori's journey of life began and concluded at her cherished childhood home on 2748 N. Newkirk Street, a place filled with precious memories and the love of family.
Lori was the treasured daughter of William Wood Mitchell and Eva Stratton Mitchell, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her sister, JoAnn Cross, her brother, Michael Stratton, and her nephew, Hassan Cross. Lori's legacy of love and kindness lives on through her devoted husband, Tyrone A. James, whom she married in March 2001. Together, they shared a marriage filled with encouragement, compassion, and unwavering support.
Lori's children, Stehphen, Christopher, Takia, Tahsheemah, and Eva, will forever remember their mother as a guiding light, nurturing them with warmth and understanding. Her seven grandchildren—Malaysia, Ishmael, Kaiel, Zion, Kahsheer, Kahzir, and Dylan—were the apples of her eye, and though she leaves behind no great-grandchildren, her spirit will continue to nurture and guide her family for generations to come.
From a young age, Lori exhibited remarkable intelligence and determination. Her academic journey took her from Rhodes Elementary and Middle School to William W. Bodine High School for International Affairs, and later to Penn State Altoona, where she pursued her college education with the same tenacity and commitment she demonstrated in all aspects of her life.
Lori's career began in retail and sales, and she later joined Houghton Mifflin as a Service Specialist. Her career path eventually led her to entrepreneurship, where her creativity and resourcefulness shone brightly. Whether cooking, catering, or crafting, Lori turned every idea into something extraordinary, showcasing her incredible talents and work ethic.
A devoted member of the faith, Lori's spiritual journey was deeply influenced by her Aunt Gertrude and her ongoing relationship with Jehovah. Baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in June 1999, Lori's faith became an integral part of her life, culminating in her service as a regular pioneer with the Northern Liberties Congregation.
Lori's kindness and generosity were boundless. She had the ability to uplift others with her presence, whether through a warm meal, a daily message, or a simple word of advice. Her quiet strength and wonderful sense of humor touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark of warmth, love, and care.
A service celebrating Lori's life will be held on October 10, 2026, at 1:30 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 2901 W Glenwood Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19121. The Mitchell James family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the many acts of kindness, comforting words, and prayers offered during this time of sorrow. Your support and love have been a source of comfort to us all.
In remembrance of Lori, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her honor.
