Born on September 22, 1947, in Rockford, Illinois, Loretta was the cherished daughter of Mary Beth and Cedrick Johnston, who predeceased her. She was a beacon of love and warmth to all who knew her.
Loretta's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the beauty of selfless giving. She grew up in a nurturing environment that fostered her innate compassion, a quality that she carried with her throughout her life. A devoted member of the New Life Covenant Church, Loretta exemplified the virtues of charity and grace, treating everyone she encountered as if they were her own family.
On a beautiful day in Chicago, on May 17, 1981, Loretta married the love of her life, David Hamilton. Together, they shared over 40 wonderful years filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering support for one another. David preceded her in death, yet their love story remains an inspiring legacy for all who knew them.
Loretta's family was the center of her universe. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Shaun, David, and DeAnn, her sister Maureen, and her treasured grandchildren Michael, Jaylin, De'Shaun, De'Shaunae, and Jasiyah, as well as her precious great-grandchild, Brooklyn. Her family was her pride and joy, and she filled their lives with joy, support, and her famous homemade cakes, which she lovingly crafted as heartfelt gifts.
Beyond her family, Loretta's culinary talents were renowned among her friends and community, where she frequently shared her baked creations, spreading love and sweetness in every bite. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome, where her generous spirit shone brightly.
Loretta's journey was marked by her remarkable capacity to give and her unwavering strength in the face of adversity. Her legacy of compassion and kindness will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched. As her family, we extend our sincerest gratitude to the dedicated medical teams who cared for Loretta with such kindness and respect during her final years. In accordance with Loretta's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life and memory, allowing her family and close friends to gather in a moment of reflection and gratitude for the time they shared with her.
