In Loving Memory of Loretta Cotton Loretta Cotton, born on December 24, 1956, in Lees Summit, entered eternal rest on September 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that will forever be cherished by her family and friends. On January 8, 1978, Loretta married her soulmate, Paul Cotton Sr., and together they crafted a life rich with love and generosity. Their home was a haven, not only for their own children but also for over 100 foster children, nine of whom they adopted and loved as their own. Through every challenge and triumph, Loretta and Paul nurtured a family filled with warmth and kindness, creating countless memories that will be treasured for generations. A devoted mother, Loretta found her greatest joy in raising her children: David Cotton, Lil Paul Cotton Jr., Glen Cotton and his wife Brittney, Helen Williamson, Demetria Cotton, Kristina Mayfield, Brenda Cotton, and Jenisha Edwards. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, Chrishawna, Lane, Sabre and her husband Branden, Cherokee, Olivia and her husband William, Lakota, Arianna, Jose, Gracie, Noah, Maya, Ava, Zaryza, Lexie, Darren, Avia, Josiah, and Ellyanna, as well as her great-grandchildren, Olliyander, Amity, Zephyrus, Elijah, Jason, Felix, Myra, and River. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, embodying the values she instilled in them. Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Cotton Sr.; her son, Joseph; her mother, Beverly Butler Brown; her father, Herbert Butler; her sister, Hadlock; and her daughter-in-law, Patsy Cotton. Though she has joined them in heaven, her spirit remains vibrant within the hearts of those she leaves behind. She is also survived by her loving siblings: Wanda Reinbold, Barbara Baldridge, Rex Butler and his wife Jennie, Shirley Falls, Ron Butler and his wife Dee Dee, Evelyn Brown, Schery Svenson and her husband Lennart, and Regina Brown. Along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members, Loretta's life was enriched by her friendships and the community she cherished. Loretta's career as a dedicated nurse demonstrated her profound compassion and commitment to service. However, it was her role as a mother and grandmother that defined her life's purpose and brought her the most happiness. Her nurturing heart and unwavering support uplifted all who were fortunate to know her. In accordance with Loretta’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of one's choice, reflecting Loretta’s generous spirit and dedication to helping others. To her family, Loretta’s life was the embodiment of the timeless truths found in 1 Corinthians 13. Her love was patient and kind, never failing, and it is this enduring love that will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
