Stokes County, Sandy Ridge, N.C. – With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Lorene Brim Sizemore, affectionately known as "Bennie," on May 29, 2026, at the age of 81. Lorene departed this life at home, enveloped by the love of her family, after courageously battling ALS for two years. Her life was a testament to strength, resilience, and unyielding love.
Lorene was born on a sunny spring day, May 5, 1945, to the late Jessie Ernest Brim and Gladys Hooker Birm. Her journey began in the small, close-knit community of Sandy Ridge, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, Lorene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David William Sizemore, her brother Jessie Jeff Brim, and her infant sisters Katherine and Betty Brim. Their memories, though bittersweet, were constant companions, shaping the loving and compassionate spirit for which Lorene was known.
Lorene’s legacy is lovingly carried forward by her children—sons David Wayne Sizemore (Crystal) of Mayodan and Dickie Ray Sizemore (Debbie) of Sandy Ridge, and her daughter Tammy Hurley (Thomas) of Sandy Ridge. As a dedicated cook at Stokes Reynolds Hospital in Danbury and at beloved local eateries such as Left's, Bob's, Priddy's, and the Red Top, Lorene's meals were a source of comfort and joy for many. Her culinary talents were surpassed only by the warmth of her hospitality.
A devout member of Mayo Christian Church in Spencer, Virginia, Lorene also found spiritual kinship at True Light Church in Sandy Ridge. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her.
