December 14, 1957 — May 18, 2026
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Lonette Bennett Gilbert, who departed this world on May 18, 2026. Born on December 14, 1957, in Hartford, Connecticut, Lonette was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of the late Bishop Lonnie Lee and Rosa Mae Bennett, and she carried their legacy with grace and dignity throughout her life.
Lonette was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Bishop Lonnie Lee and Rosa Mae Bennett, as well as her dear siblings, Lonnie, Rosa Maria Hines, and Crystal Jean Hoggard. She is survived by her devoted brother, Phillip Charles Bennett, her loving children, Jason Israel Gadson (Tiffany) and Qiana Nicole McClain (Bryan), and her treasured grandsons, Roman and Jrue McClain. Her memory will also be lovingly upheld by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and all who were touched by her kindness and wisdom.
Educated at Clayton State University, Lonette majored in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Social Work. Her career spanned over 27 years in the Hospitality Hotel Industry and 15 years in Accounting. However, it was in teaching the word of God to young people aged 9 to 16 at Sunday School where she found her true calling and deepest fulfillment. Her love for guiding the youth was unparalleled, and she instilled in them not just knowledge, but a love for learning and spiritual growth.
A devoted member of New Vision Christian Church, Lonette was an integral part of the congregation, assisting in the Administrative Office and supporting the Executive Director with dedication and enthusiasm. Her faith and commitment to her community were evident in every aspect of her life.
Lonette had a passion for music, particularly Gospel, with CeCe Winans, Andre Crouch, and the Hawkins being her favorites. Music was her solace and her joy, a testament to her vibrant spirit. She found immense joy in teaching her grandsons how to cook, delighting in their kitchen adventures and the shared moments of laughter and love.
Known for her unwavering encouragement, Lonette’s favorite saying was, "If God tells you to do it then do it. Regardless of what anyone else says, do what God tells you." Her words inspired many, reminding them to follow their divine path with courage and faith.
A service celebrating Lonette’s remarkable life will be held at New Vision Christian Church, located at 5320 Phillips Drive, Lake City, GA, 30260. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, an organization close to Lonette's heart.
Her family extends their heartfelt thanks for the many acts of kindness, love, and sympathy extended to them during this time of bereavement. They appreciate all the prayers and words of encouragement and pray that God bestows His richest blessings upon each of you.
