In Loving Memory of Lola Sue Smith
It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Lola Sue Smith, on May 16, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on November 5, 1934, in the quaint town of Yates Center, Kansas, Lola was the cherished daughter of Wallace and Bonnie Culver. She lived a life marked by love, warmth, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
Lola was preceded in death by her dear parents, Wallace and Bonnie Culver, her siblings Eugene Culver, Vivian Baker, and Judith Ann Jones, and her great-grandson, Chad Michael Klauman. The void left by their departure was softened by her enduring memories and the strength she derived from her surviving family.
Lola is lovingly remembered by her son, John Smith, and her grandchildren who were the light of her life: Beth Ann (Kenny) Wiles, Crystal (Jesse) Thompson Jr., James (Deborah) Smith, Shawn (Tara) Smith, and Carrie Jesseph. Her legacy continues to shine brightly in her great-grandchildren, Matthew Friend, Mikaela Friend, Wyatt Nalley, Andrew Tiger, Eryn Tiger, Kyra Smith, Jameson Smith, Max Smith, and her great-great-granddaughter, Athena Rose Ann Friend.
In 1954, Lola married Theodore Maxwell Smith. Though their paths eventually diverged, the years they shared were filled with laughter, growth, and the shared joy of raising a family. Lola's home was a haven of love, and she was known far and wide for her incredible baking and intricate crochet work. These hobbies were not just pastimes but expressions of her creativity and love, often shared with those she held dear.
To the children in her life, she was fondly known as "Grandma Sue," a testament to her nurturing spirit and the profound impact she had on her family and community. Her warmth and dedication to those she loved were unmatched and will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
A service to celebrate Lola's remarkable life will be held on June 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral. Family and friends are invited to gather in her memory, to honor the life of a woman whose love knew no bounds and whose legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.
As we bid farewell to Lola Sue Smith, let us remember her with the same love and kindness she bestowed upon us. May her soul rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she so richly deserved and deeply cherished.
