September 7, 1924 — March 19, 2026
In loving memory of Lois Ogletree (Stella Mae), who passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the age of 101. Born on September 7, 1924, in the warm and welcoming community of Sumpter County, Alabama, Lois was a beacon of strength, grace, and compassion throughout her long and fulfilling life. She was the cherished daughter of the late Nadine and Jimmy Webster, who instilled in her the values of faith, family, and service.
Lois’s life was a testament to resilience and love, characterized by her roles as a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her beloved daughters Patricia Hammond (Johnny), Nadine Billows (Charles), and Cynthia Deramus (Clyde); her sons Stephen Truss (Edith) and Sterling Ogletree (Brenda); and her dear sisters Velma Tate (Patrick) and Victoria Carmichael (James). Her legacy continues to flourish with seventeen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who affectionately knew her as "Feisty Stella."
Lois’s professional journey was spent in heartfelt service as a Supervisor at a local nursing home facility. Her role was not just a job but a calling, as she demonstrated compassion, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. Her nurturing spirit left an indelible mark on the many lives she touched, both within the facility and beyond.
Her spiritual life was equally profound. Lois confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a cherished member of Fourth Avenue Baptist Church in 1935. Her devotion to God and her church was unwavering, as she actively served in numerous capacities. She was a vibrant member of the Matrons Ministry, Senior Mission, and Number One Ushers, as well as a dedicated Sunday School Teacher for both the Young Adult and Senior classes. Her faithfulness, joy, and consistency in ministry were matched only by her generous support to the work of the Lord.
The celebration of her extraordinary life will take place on March 28, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Living Word Baptist Church, located at 2720 4th Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35233. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Lois’s warmth and kindness are invited to join in honoring her remarkable journey and the lasting impact she leaves behind.
