Lisa Marie Brown

Colonel (Retired) Lisa Marie Brown, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and dedicated member of the military community, passed away peacefully at home in the loving presence of her family, after a valiant battle with ALS. Born on July 8, 1965, in Louisville, Kentucky, Lisa was the cherished daughter of John and Nancy Brown and the sister to Debra, Matt, Laura, and Patrick. Her journey was one marked by service, love, and a commitment to excellence in all her endeavors. Lisa’s educational path began at Sacred Heart High School in Louisville, where she laid the foundation for a life of learning and achievement. She continued her studies at Spalding University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, before completing an EMT course at Barton County Community College in Fort Riley, Kansas. Furthering her education, she obtained an MBA in Business from Syracuse University, reflecting her dedication to both personal growth and professional development. Her distinguished military career began with service in the US Army Reserve (USAR) from 1984 to 1986, followed by active duty from 1987 to 1998, and culminating in her return to the USAR until her retirement in 2016. Rising to the rank of Colonel, Lisa was stationed in Germany for two years and was the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Her contributions as the Administrator of the Order of Military Medical Merit were a testament to her leadership and dedication. In her civilian life, Lisa excelled as a healthcare analyst, where her keen insight and analytical skills were highly valued. Her commitment to community service was evident through her role on the school board of Cole Middle/High School, where she dedicated several years to fostering educational excellence. Lisa's life was enriched by her love for family and animals. She shared many joyful adventures with her daughter Leah, particularly their cherished times on Disney Cruises and travels to connect with family and friends. Her home was always filled with the lively presence of her beloved cats and dogs, reflecting her deep affection for animals. Known for her generous spirit and sharp sense of humor, Lisa was a friend to all and a champion for those in need. Her altruism and humility were hallmarks of her character, as she quietly provided help and support without seeking recognition. Lisa was predeceased by her siblings Matthew and Patrick. She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly, including her daughter Leah, sister Debra (Rick) , and her nieces and nephews: Joshua(Chelsea),Evan(Nicole), Ian, Brittany, Kyra, Jenna, and Evi. A funeral service to honor Lisa's remarkable life will be held on September 8, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, located at 1602 Thousand Oaks Dr., San Antonio, TX 78232. A subsequent service will take place at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery on September 9 at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lisa’s memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization she deeply respected for its mission to support veterans or the ASPCA or a local animal shelter. The Brown family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated VA staff and caregivers who provided exceptional care and support throughout Lisa's illness. As the family reflects on Lisa’s life, they are comforted by the love and memories shared with her, grateful for the village of friends and family who stood by their side.
