Lionel H. Cortez November 10, 1945 - July 7, 2026 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lionel H. Cortez, who left this world surrounded by love in his nieces home on July 7, 2026. Born on November 10, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas, to Julio Cortez and Janie Herrera, Lionel lived a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Lionel was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. Predeceased by his loving parents, his cherished sisters Irma Hernandez and Maricella Hernandez, and his nephew Daniel Cortez, Lionel's spirit now joins them in eternal peace. He is survived by his beloved son, Lionel Galindo Jr., four treasured grandchildren, one great-grandchild who brought him immense joy, his brother Julio Cortez Jr., and his sister Emily English. His life was also enriched by many adoring nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. A proud alumnus of Bowie Elementary, Irving Middle School, and Fox Tech High School, Lionel's educational journey laid the foundation for a life of service and dedication. Serving in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966, Lionel exemplified courage and commitment to his country. After his military service, he worked faithfully at Double M Sheet Metal Company, where his work ethic and congenial nature made him a respected and beloved colleague. Lionel was a man who embraced life wholeheartedly. Owning the sports bar One More Time was a dream fulfilled, allowing him to share his love for camaraderie and good times with many. His hobbies were as vibrant as his personality; he found joy in playing pool, listening to music, collecting classic cars, and grilling for family and friends. Dancing was a passion that lit up his soul, and his presence was always a source of warmth and laughter. Those who knew Lionel will forever remember his adventurous spirit, his warm heart, and his infectious sense of humor. He had a unique ability to make those around him feel loved and valued, and his legacy of kindness and joy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Funeral Services will be held to honor Lionel's memory on July 23, 2026, at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower, San Antonio, TX. at 10:00 am and a graveside committal service there after at 1:30 pm . where family and friends can meet at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower, San Antonio, TX; Castillo Funeral Home, The Little flower churchthe priests, pastors, Bishop, deacons, family, and friends, as well as the hospice care team for their compassionate support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Lionel's memory to Margaret Cardenas located at 1422 Kentucky Ave, San Antonio, TX 78201 Lionel's spirit will forever be a beacon of love and joy. As we gather to celebrate his life, we hold his cherished memory close to our hearts. A devoted father, beloved son, and treasured brother, Lionel will remain a cherished friend and forever in our hearts.
