Linda Young

September 15, 1946 — February 18, 2024

September 15, 1946 – February 18, 2024 It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Linda Young on February 18, 2024. Linda, aged 77, departed this world peacefully, enveloped in the love of her family at the Cumberland House in Crossville, Tennessee. Born in the charming town of Sparta, Tennessee, on September 15, 1946, Linda was the cherished daughter of Arnold and Bessie Brown. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her dear sister, Louise May. Linda's legacy of love and kindness lives on through her surviving family: her devoted son, Lanny Selby, and his wife, Melissa Selby; her loving sisters, Zelma Steward and Martha Scott; her brother, Tommy Brown; and her pride and joy granddaughter, Holly Wharton, and her husband, Drew Wharton. Linda was also blessed with the companionship of a special friend, Bannetta Spakes. Linda embraced life's challenges with grace and resilience, starting her working life at the Sparta Shirt Factory. Her remarkable work ethic led her to a fulfilling career at Mallory Timers, where she dedicated 33 years in the dryer department. Her colleagues and friends remember her as a diligent and compassionate presence. A devoted member of the Black Oak Church of God for over 40 years, Linda's faith was a guiding light in her life, influencing her actions and interactions with everyone she met. Her kindness was boundless, and she treated everyone with equal warmth and generosity. Linda's passions were as vibrant and varied as the patterns of the Blue Ridge dishes she loved to collect. She spent many Saturdays at local estate auctions, always on the hunt for a new addition to her cherished collection. Her thoughtful nature extended beyond her hobbies; she was known for sending cards to everyone she knew, a token of her affection and care. Mornings found Linda in her favorite rocking chair, savoring the tranquility of a new day with a steaming cup of coffee in hand. Linda's family will forever remember her as a beacon of love and kindness, a woman who saw the good in everyone and shared her heart unconditionally. Her gentle spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. A service to honor Linda's remarkable life will be held on February 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, located at 1786 Smithville Hwy, Sparta, Tennessee. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to caregiver Jennifer Philippe, the staff at Uplands Village, and the hospice house in Crossville, Tennessee, for their compassionate care and support. As we bid farewell to Linda, we carry forward the lessons of love and generosity she imparted. Her memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those she leaves behind.
