Linda Smith

July 10, 1962 — April 21, 2026

It is with heavy hearts, yet with profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Linda Smith, who departed this world peacefully at home on April 21, 2026, after bravely confronting breast cancer. Born on July 10, 1962, in the nurturing community of Selma, Alabama, Linda's journey was one marked by compassion, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to family and community. Linda was the cherished daughter of Madea Smith and Willie Woodson, whose values shaped her into a beacon of light for all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Madea Smith; her brother, Matthew Smith; and her sister, Delia Mae Woodson. Despite these losses, Linda's spirit remained unyielded and her heart open, continuously embracing the joys and challenges of life with grace. A graduate of Selma High School in 1980, Linda later pursued her passion for helping others by enrolling at Auburn University in 1991. There, she achieved her dream, earning a degree in Nursing in 1995. Her vocation was not just a career but a calling, and she dedicated her professional life to caring for others with empathy and skill. Linda's marriage to Willie Woodson was a testament to enduring love and partnership. For 30 years, they shared a life filled with love and laughter, raising four wonderful children together: Porschia, Michelle, Shanevia, and Clareance. Her love for her family was profound, and she delighted in the company of her ten grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. Linda's home was a haven of warmth and hospitality, where she expressed her love through cooking and caring for all who entered. Known affectionately as the "Neighborhood Grandmother," she extended her nurturing spirit beyond her own family, looking out for everyone in her community with a kindness that was as genuine as it was boundless. Her friends and family will remember her not only for her kindness but also for the unique scents she wore every day and her laughter, which was as infectious as it was sincere. Linda's presence was a gift, her life a tapestry of love, dedication, and community spirit. Linda is survived by her devoted spouse, Willie; their children, Porschia, Michelle, Shanevia, and Clareance; and her extended family, including Deon, Michael, and Brittany Smith. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on through them and the lives she touched. In accordance with her wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor Linda's life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice in her name, as a testament to Linda's spirit of giving and kindness. Though Linda's physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit, love, and laughter will remain forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
