On the morning of May 10, 2026, Linda Kay Blacketer departed this world peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of her home in Greenwood, Indiana. Born on May 8, 1949, Linda graced this world with her presence for 77 beautiful years, enriching the lives of everyone she encountered with her kindness and unwavering love. Linda was the cherished daughter of the late Donald Paul and Doris Bell Sovern, who welcomed her into the world in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings Harold Edward Sovern and Donna Jean Butcher, and her devoted husband, Richard William Blacketer Jr., with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. Linda and Richard's love story began on the bowling lanes, leading to a marriage on March 25, 1978, that blossomed into a life filled with joy, laughter, and countless memories. Linda's early years were marked by her active participation in Englewood Christian Church, where she was baptized and later became a guiding light for others. She graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1967, embarking on a career that showcased her dedication and hard work. She began her professional journey as a high school student at Rural Pharmacy, working alongside Mrs. Money and Mrs. Craigo. After graduating, she embraced an opportunity at L.S. Ayres, where she dedicated 24 years of service until their closure in January 1992. Linda's career continued at I.U.P.U.I, where she worked as a secretary for the Dean of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, retiring in January 2016 after more than 20 years of committed service. Linda's life was a testament to her nurturing spirit and boundless love for her family. Her son, Jonathan Edward Blacketer, and his fiancé, Melissa Nicole, were her pride and joy, as were her seven grandchildren: Shayla Marie, Payton Renee', Camron Denease, Bray (Niklaus), Leland William, Levi James, and Riggs Alexander. Her surviving siblings, Donald Joseph Sovern and Theresa Lynn Orcutt, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, held a special place in her heart. Linda's life was enriched by her passions and hobbies. She was an avid reader, always with a book in hand, and a devoted supporter of her son's sporting endeavors. Weekends were often spent hosting family gatherings, where her homemade goodies and infectious laughter brought everyone together. Her kitchen was a haven during the holidays, with her beloved party mix and pumpkin bread delighting all who were fortunate enough to taste them. Linda cherished her role as a grandmother, lavishing her grandchildren with love and attention, capturing every moment with a camera in hand. Those who knew Linda will remember her warm and caring nature. She was a mother not only to Jonathan but also to his friends, ensuring a full home and heart. Linda's thoughtfulness extended through frequent phone calls and heartfelt letters, always checking in on her loved ones. Her family was the center of her world, and she was the glue that held them together. A celebration of Linda's life will be held on May 26, 2026, at Indiana Memorial, located at 3039 W. C.R. 300 S., Trafalgar, IN 46181. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Kurt Patterson, Dr. Daniel Eddleman, Dr. Michael Weisman, Suzanne Brown, RN, Kayla Leroux, RN, Theresa Orcutt, Melissa Nicole, and Riggs Alexander for their extraordinary care and support during the final months of Linda's life.
