It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Linda Gayle Hughes on May 20, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on September 22, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, Linda was a beacon of strength and love, forever leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Linda was the cherished daughter of the late Ernestine Hughes and is survived by her devoted father, Howard Hughes. Her life was profoundly touched by the loss of her beloved daughter, Lovetta Samara Christian Stevenson, as well as her mother and siblings, Brenda Toney, Tommy Murrie Jr., Dennis Murray, Patricia (Patty) Murray, Evelyn Murrie, and Gregory Murrie, who predeceased her. Linda is survived by a loving family, including her grandson, D'Vonte Young, who brought immense joy to her life. Her sisters, Shirley Murrie, Cynthia Allen, Gaynelle Hughes, Gaynetta Hughes Williams (Torrey), and Beverly Armstrong (Lunzy), held a special place in her heart. She was also a cherished aunt to her nieces and nephews: Mario, Tonetta, Eboni, Christopher, Terrance, Wilma, Helena, Kwasi, Angelica, Brian, and Ernestine, each of whom she loved deeply. A graduate of Murray Wright High School, Linda went on to dedicate her professional life to the City of Detroit, where she served as a bus driver for the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) until her retirement. Her work was more than a job; it was an extension of her generous spirit and dedication to her community. Linda was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she lent her beautiful voice to the choir, filling the sanctuary with music and joy. Her strong spirit, unwavering honesty, and ability to "keep it real" endeared her to everyone she met. With a sense of humor that could brighten any room, Linda brought laughter and light to those around her. Her love was genuine, her wisdom candid, and her presence unforgettable. A celebration of Linda's life will be held on June 14, 2026, at 1632 S Mansfield Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90019, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and legacy. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Gaynetta for the exceptional care and love she provided to Linda, embodying the kindness and compassion that Linda herself shared throughout her life. Linda's legacy is one of love, laughter, and resilience. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
