December 11, 1958 — May 21, 2026

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Linda Gail Rakes Walker, who left this world peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 67. Linda was born on December 11, 1958, in the small town of Eden, North Carolina, to Frances Gammon and Sanford Rakes, both of whom predeceased her. Her final moments were spent in the comforting embrace of her beloved daughter at Annie Penn Hospital, where she transitioned with the serenity that marked her life. Linda's journey through life was enriched by her vibrant spirit and her deep love for family and friends. She was the cherished mother of April Powell (Ray), and the beloved sister of Kathy Frazier. Her legacy of love and warmth lives on in her grandchildren, Ashley Jacobs, Jeremiah Powell, Joshua Hallman, Jacob Powell, and Aaron Pruitt, who will carry her memory into future generations. She is also survived by a special niece Tanya Coleman (April), great nephews Tyler and Carson, several cousins, aunts, and an uncle, all of whom were dear to her heart. Linda's early years were defined by hard work and dedication in the textile industry, where she honed her skills and built lifelong friendships. Later, she took on the role of EVS manager, where her leadership and integrity shone brightly, until she embraced a well-deserved retirement. Her professional journey was a testament to her commitment and resilience, qualities that have inspired all who knew her. Her active involvement in Northside Baptist Church was a reflection of her deep faith and her commitment to service. Linda's participation in church activities brought her immense joy and fulfillment, as she shared her love and warmth with her wonderful church family. Linda was known for her outgoing and bubbly personality, a lovable mother and grandmother whose love knew no bounds. Her home was always filled with laughter and joy, especially when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel special and loved. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she was never happier than when she was spoiling her beloved dog, Lola, who was her constant companion. A service to honor and celebrate Linda's life will be held on May 25, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Boone and Cooke Funeral Services. Family and friends are invited to come together to remember the beautiful life she led and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of many. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Linda's memory to the Barry Joyce Cancer Association, an organization close to her heart. Linda Gail Rakes Walker will be remembered as a beacon of love and light, whose memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she so generously shared in life.
