Linda C. (Powers) Freitas
July 7, 1951 — May 18, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Linda C. (Powers) Freitas, a cherished soul who left this world unexpectedly on May 18, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. Linda was born on July 7, 1951, in the warm embrace of Manchester, New Hampshire, to John E. Powers and Antoinette (Philibert) Powers. Her journey through life was marked by love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to her family and passions.
Linda’s early years in Manchester were filled with laughter and learning. She graduated from Central High School in 1969, where she began to cultivate the skills and relationships that would shape the rest of her life. A dedicated professional, Linda found her calling first in banking before transitioning to a fulfilling role in purchasing and shipping for a medical supply company.
In her personal life, Linda was a beacon of warmth and support. She married her beloved husband, John D. Freitas, Jr., and together they created a life rich with love and happiness. Their home in a quiet neighborhood on the west side of Worcester was a haven for family gatherings and celebrations, where they raised their beloved daughter, Rebecca. Linda’s heart overflowed with pride and joy as she watched her family grow, especially when she became a grandmother to her cherished grandson, Thomas John “TJ” Kesman.
Linda's love for animals was profound, particularly her passion for the Newfoundland dog breed. Her dedication to the Newfoundland Club of New England was evident in her work promoting these gentle giants in water rescue, draft training, and rally exercises. Linda's certified therapy dog brought comfort and joy to countless children in elementary schools and patients in hospitals, embodying her generous spirit and compassion.
Beyond her love for animals, Linda was a talented seamstress and quilter, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her artistic soul. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether tending to her garden, supporting TJ at hockey rinks and lacrosse fields, or exploring new places. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively, including a memorable family trip to Paris, Norway, and London last year, as well as a deeply meaningful journey to Portugal and Madeira in 2019.
Linda was predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Antoinette Powers, and her dear sister, Nancy Nichols, and brother-in-law, Leigh Nichols. Her legacy continues through her surviving family: her loving husband, John; her daughter, Rebecca Kesman, and her husband Thomas James Kesman; her treasured grandson, TJ; and her six siblings, Rosalind Pidgeon (Patrick), Perry Powers, Gary Powers, John Powers, Deborah Miller (Timothy), and Marsha Willey (Bruce).
Linda’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and friendship. Her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness touched everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. While she may no longer walk among us, her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held to honor her memory and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Newfoundland Club of New England, an organization close to Linda’s heart.
May Linda rest in peace, surrounded by eternal love and grace, as we carry forward her legacy of compassion and joy.
