Linda Rose Green (Cox)

Linda Cox Green, born on May 11, 1949, in Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2026, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beacon of light and love, cherished deeply by those fortunate enough to know her. Linda was the beloved daughter of Leo Aldo Cox and Velma Marine Cox, who predeceased her. She is survived by her devoted children, Carla Sheedy (Green) and her husband Dennis Sheedy, and Brenda Collier (Green) and her companion Bruce Biggs. Linda's legacy continues through her five grandchildren: Raegan Sheedy, Erin Sheedy with companion Sabrina Sheedy, Hannah Brubaker (Collier) with husband Sam Brubaker, Quinn Sheedy, and Rylee Collier with wife Sable Collier. She also leaves behind four cherished great-grandchildren: Fallon Sheedy, fondly known as Squishy; Emaira Sheedy, lovingly called Em; Alia Collier; and Summer Brubaker. Her grandpuppy, Remi Biggs, will miss her gentle presence and affection. She was affectionately known as "GGG". A proud graduate of Springfield High School in 1967, Linda fulfilled a lifelong dream by earning an Associate Degree at Lincoln Land Community College in 2015 at the age of 66. Her pursuit of education was a testament to her belief in lifelong learning and personal growth. Linda dedicated nearly five decades to the Illinois Secretary of State, where she worked from 1967 until her retirement in 2015. Her career spanned various roles, most notably in the Department of Personnel and also with the Illinois State Archives, where her meticulous nature shone brightly. Linda had a profound love for genealogy, a passion that led her to become a long-standing member of the National Genealogical Society. Her interests were vast and varied; she was an avid sports enthusiast, a gardener, a traveler, and a concertgoer. She was also known to enjoy the thrill of gambling, always with a twinkle in her eye and laughter in her heart. Her family and friends were her world, and she dedicated her life to their happiness and well-being. Her selflessness and compassion were unmatched, and her organized, intelligent nature made her a pillar of strength and guidance. Linda was deeply committed to recycling and environmental conservation, embodying her belief in leaving the world a better place. Her patriotism and desire for peace were evident in her daily life, as she always sought harmony and understanding. Linda's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported them through this journey, including friends, extended family, Heartland Hospice, and all of her doctors and nurses who provided exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda’s memory may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Hope Foundation. A celebration of Linda's remarkable life will be held in late September in Springfield, Illinois. Her family invites all who knew her to join in honoring her legacy of love, strength, and kindness.
