It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Lily Ruth Barnes on February 17, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on June 27, 1948, in the charming town of Aiken, South Carolina, Lily was the beloved daughter of Wilma and Anthony Barnes, who predeceased her, along with her sister, Alice Barnes, and brother, Rodney Jones. Lily's journey through life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her community, and her faith. She was a proud graduate of Wagener-Salley High School, class of 1966, and devoted over 27 years of service to A.L. Corbett Elementary as a cherished lunch lady and custodian. Her role extended far beyond her job description, as she became a nurturing presence in the lives of countless children. For over four decades, Lily was an active and cherished member of Chalk Hill Baptist Church, where she dedicated much of her time and energy. Her commitment to her church family was profound, and her faith was a guiding light in her life. Lily had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her quick wit and warm smile could light up a room, and her jokes were always ready to lift spirits. Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love and laughter. Lily leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her children, Quentin Barnes and Brittany Barnes; her grandchildren, Quentiz Barnes, Ynya Middleton, LaNya Middleton, and Zakeem Washington; and her two great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy in her later years. A service to honor and celebrate Lily's life will take place on February 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Chalk Hill Baptist Church, located at 3419 New Holland Road, Wagener, SC 29164. Family, friends, and community members are invited to join together in remembrance of a truly remarkable woman. The Barnes family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Chalk Hill Baptist Church and all the friends and loved ones who have offered support and comfort during this difficult time. Lily will be dearly missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, Lily Ruth Barnes. Your love and light will continue to guide us all.
