It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Lillie M Hicks, who departed this life peacefully at her home on May 27, 2026. Born on September 11, 1943, in the heart of Jackson, Mississippi, Lillie's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith.
Lillie was the cherished daughter of Genevia Chambers, who instilled in her the values of kindness and perseverance. These values became the cornerstone of Lillie's life as she navigated its many joys and challenges with grace and dignity. She was preceded in death by her dear daughter, Phyllis Ellington, in 2021, and her loving husband, Andrew Hicks, whose memories she treasured deeply. Her sisters, Ida B. Chambers and Ella Mae Howard, and brothers, A.B. Chambers and Jesse James Chambers, also welcomed her into eternal rest.
Lillie's life was a beautiful tapestry of family, faith, and community. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children: Jerone Bennett (Tracy), Cassandra Bennett, and Eric Bennett, all of Jackson, Mississippi, and Lewis Bennett, Jr., of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Her brother, Eddie Chambers, remains a testament to the enduring bond of siblings.
A devoted grandmother, Lillie's heart was filled with joy as she watched her family grow. She is survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a precious great-great-grandson, each of whom carries forward her legacy of love, laughter, and compassion.
Lillie's home was a sanctuary of warmth, where family and friends gathered, finding comfort in her wisdom and gentleness. Her kitchen was a place of nourishment, not only of body but also of spirit, where countless meals were shared and cherished memories were made. Her unwavering faith was a guiding light to all who knew her, and her presence brought comfort and strength to those around her.
As we bid farewell to Lillie, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love and devotion to family and friends. Her spirit will continue to inspire us, reminding us of the power of love and the beauty of a life dedicated to others.
A service to honor Lillie's remarkable life will be held in Jackson, Mississippi, where she will be laid to rest surrounded by the love of her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lillie's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find solace in knowing that Lillie is now at peace, reunited with her loved ones in the embrace of eternity. Her light will forever shine in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
