July 4, 1937 — May 8, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Libertad Salido Fernando, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Libertad departed this life on May 8, 2026, passing away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 88 in Thousand Oaks California. Born on July 4, 1937 in the town of Ibajay, Aklan, Philippines, she was the daughter of Doroteo and Virginia Salido, who instilled in her the values of love, determination, and faith. She is predeceased by her cherished parents and siblings, Desamparados Salido, Elvigia Cabales, Gabriella Loop, Jacob Salido, and Dovir Salido, each of whom she held dear in her heart. Her spirit is carried forward by her daughters, Grace (Kris) and Stephanie (Aaron); her brother, Isidro Salido; and her cherished granddaughters, Samantha, Paige, and Gabrielle, whose lives she enriched with her loving presence and wisdom. Libertad was a proud alumna of Far Eastern University in Quezon City, Philippines, where she laid the foundation for a fulfilling career. Her professional journey led her to the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Bureau of Mines in Manila, and later into the financial sector as a loan officer, where she was respected for her diligence and dedication. On January 19, 1964, Libertad married the love of her life, Manuel A. Fernando. Together, they crafted a beautiful 53-year-long story of love and partnership until Manuel's passing. Their marriage was a testament to unwavering commitment and mutual respect, which inspired all who knew them. Libertad's deep, unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a long-time choir member at St. Andrew Church and actively participated in the Filipino Simbang Gabi mass at Assumption Church. Her soprano voice was a gift to her church and community, as was her kindness. Known for her welcoming smile, Libertad's generosity and warmth touched everyone she encountered. Her culinary delights, especially her lumpia and pancit, were always in demand at family gatherings and church events - a testament to her love for bringing people together through food and fellowship. Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find solace in the legacy Libertad leaves behind - a life rich in love, kindness, and compassion. As we say goodbye, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the indelible mark she left on our hearts. May her soul rest in eternal peace, as she is reunited with Manuel and loved ones who have gone before her, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
