Lewis Gershman
September 14, 1942 — October 5, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Lewis Gershman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on October 5, 2026. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, on September 14, 1942, to Bella and Joseph Gershman, Lewis lived a life full of adventure, warmth, and generosity.
Lewis was a remarkable man, whose presence filled every room with joy and vitality. His larger-than-life personality and mischievous spirit were trademarks that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He believed that rules were simply challenges to be met with wit and determination, a philosophy that guided him throughout his life.
A graduate of the University of Manitoba, Lewis earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1967. He began his career working in the family business, Gershman Produce, where he developed a keen business acumen that would later lead him to establish his own trucking company, Gershman Transport. This entrepreneurial venture was not only a testament to his business prowess but also a cherished family endeavor that he proudly ran alongside his sons.
In 2000, Lewis embraced the sunny vistas of Florida, where he found joy and tranquility in the simple pleasures of life, often seen boating and basking in the warmth of the sun. His passion for cars, a love that began in his youth as a drag racer, was a legacy he passed on to his son and grandson, igniting a shared bond that spanned generations.
Lewis was a man of many interests, from his youthful days of water skiing and snowmobiling at his beloved cabin at Gull Lake, to his steadfast commitment to never missing a weekly basketball game at the YMHA or a Friday manicure and hair trim. These rituals were a reflection of his zest for life and his commitment to living fully.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Val Gorin, and his children, Jonathon Gershman, Linda Ricki Hall, Darryl and Jaqueline Gershman, and Corey Gershman. Lewis was the proud grandfather to five cherished grandchildren: Ezra, Gavriel, Carter, Isabella, and Silas, each of whom he adored deeply.
Lewis was laid to rest in Boca Raton, Florida, where his family and friends gathered to celebrate the extraordinary life he led. In keeping with his generous spirit, the family kindly suggests that donations be made in his memory to Cancer Care Manitoba, an organization close to Lewis's heart.
As we remember Lewis, we take solace in the legacy he leaves behind—a life marked by love, laughter, and indelible impact. May his memory be a blessing, and may his spirit continue to inspire those who knew him. He has indeed left his mark on the world, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
