Lessie was the cherished daughter of the late Vinnie Hawkins Jackson and Willie Jackson. Upon relocating to Evanston, Lessie began her professional journey as an office manager for Jackson Movers. Her dedication and skills were soon recognized, leading her to a fulfilling career at Northwestern University, where she worked diligently, leaving her mark with her impeccable work ethic and dedication. In 1973, Lessie married the love of her life, Franklin D. Wheat Sr., with whom she shared a beautiful journey until his passing. Together, they built a loving family, blessed with children and grandchildren who would become the center of Lessie's world. Lessie's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of the Seven Star Missionary Baptist Church in Delhi. After moving to Evanston, she became an active member of the United Faith Missionary Baptist Church, where her radiant smile and warm spirit brought joy to all who knew her. Beyond her faith and family, Lessie found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and took great delight in baking her famous pound cakes, a sweet treat that reflected the sweetness of her soul. Known for her radiant smile that could light up any room, Lessie's kindness and warmth were a beacon of love and comfort to everyone she met. A celebration of Lessie's life will be held on July 2, 2026, at 12:00 PM in Evanston, Illinois.
