Leslie H Reed

January 5, 1949 — February 22, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leslie H. Reed, a remarkable woman whose kindness and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her. Leslie passed peacefully on February 22, 2026, at the age of 77. She was born on January 5, 1949, in Portland, Maine, to William and Virginia Atherton. Leslie's early years were spent in the nurturing embrace of a close-knit family. She was preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Virginia H. Atherton, her brother, William R. Atherton Jr., and her sister, Gail Harting. Despite these losses, Leslie's spirit remained unyielding and resilient. In 1973, Leslie married the love of her life, Randall L. Reed, in Schenectady, NY. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Their bond, which spanned 52 years, was a testament to their enduring love and dedication to each other. Leslie's commitment to education was evident in her academic pursuits. She graduated from Niskayuna High School in 1967 and went on to earn an Associate Degree in Nursery Education in 1969, followed by a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Her passion for nurturing young minds led her to teach at St. Catherine's Child Care Center in Albany until 1974, when she chose to focus on raising her family. Later, she continued her teaching career at Schenectady Inner City Ministry and West Glenville Nursery School, sharing her love for learning with countless children. A woman of many talents, Leslie's creativity knew no bounds. Her sewing skills were unmatched, as she lovingly crafted clothing for her children, adorned their home with handmade curtains, enjoyed quilting. Her artistic pursuits extended to jewelry making, polymer clay projects, drawing, painting and playing piano. Her stenciling adorned the walls of their home, infusing it with warmth and character. Leslie was a beacon of kindness and sensitivity, always attuned to the feelings of others. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Alongside her husband, Randy, she encouraged their children—Dana (Adam) Marrer, Nicholas (Kristen) Reed, and Cindy Reed—to pursue their passions and dreams. Her legacy lives on in her five beloved grandchildren—Brianna (Dom) Mosher, Keira Marrer, Hannah Reed, Nora Reed, and Owen Reed—and her great-grandchildren, Ryder and Hunter Mosher. She is also survived by her brother Peter Atherton and his wife Elizabeth. In this time of grief, the family extends their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Ellis Hospital ICU for their exceptional care and compassion during Leslie's final days. Leslie's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a friend to all and for her strong Christian faith. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Leslie's light will forever shine in the hearts of those she touched, leaving an indelible mark on this world.
