In Loving Memory

Leroy Washington
January 19, 1960 — July 28, 2026
Bro, Washington, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on July 28, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on January 19, 1960, in Sanford, Florida, Bro. Washington's journey through life was rich with love, service, and cherished memories.
Bro. Washington was the cherished son of Foundren and Willie Mae Washington, who preceded him in death, as did his beloved daughter, Gabrielle Washington, and his brother, Nathaniel Washington. Despite the profound losses he faced, he found strength in his enduring faith, his family, and his community.
He shared 32 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Katrina, whom he wed on August 7, 1993. Together, they built a life filled with joy, adventure, and unwavering support. Bro. Washington was a proud and loving father to Carolyn Washington and a doting grandfather to Tayvon Hughes, who brought endless joy to his days.
Bro. Washington was a man of service, dedicating 17 years of his life to the U.S. Army, serving with honor at Fort Hood and in Germany, and participating in Desert Storm. He retired with distinction as an E6 Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, Leroy continued to protect and serve as a guard at the Gatesville prison, where he again retired.
His commitment to his community was evident in his active membership at Anderson Chapel in Killeen, Texas. Bro. Washington served as a steward, offering his time and talents selflessly until his health required him to step back. His presence was a source of warmth and welcome to all who knew him.
His passions included fishing, playing slot machines, and cherishing precious moments with his family. His joy for life was infectious, and his kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his wife, Katrina Washington of Killeen, TX; daughter, Carolyn Washington of Battle Creek, MI; grandson, Tayvon of Battle Creek, MI; sister, Clara Fields of Sanford, FL; brothers Clarence McMillion of Deltona, FL, Bernard McMillion of Miami, FL, Corinthian McMillion of Deltona, FL, Robert Lee Washington of Maryland, Anthony Washington of Ponce De Leon, FL, and Bruce Washington of Sanford, FL. His legacy will also be carried forward by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A service to honor Bro. Washington's life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, located at 3618 Stassen St., Houston, TX 77051.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his caregiver, Brittney Smith, and the hospital staff for their compassionate care during his final days.
Leroy's family and friends will forever hold him close in their hearts, remembering his warmth, his laughter, and the countless ways he enriched their lives. As his family lovingly expresses, "Forever in our hearts."
