It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Leroy (Roy) Fredrick Whipple Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Roy departed this world peacefully on May 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and generosity. Born on December 26, 1941, in Whatcom County, Roy was the cherished son of Leroy Whipple Sr. and Joyce Bowman. His early years were spent amidst the scenic beauty of the Pacific Northwest, where he developed a deep appreciation for nature and a steadfast work ethic. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings Lisa Whipple, Edward, Joe, and David. Their memories were forever cherished in his heart, and now they are reunited in eternal peace. In 1983, Roy found the love of his life, Doris (Irene) Whipple, and together they embarked on a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and countless treasured moments. Married on February 12 in Marysville, Washington, Roy and Irene built a life that was a testament to their unwavering devotion and shared dreams. For 43 wonderful years, they nurtured their blended family, creating a home that was a sanctuary of warmth and kindness. Roy's life was marked by his selflessness and willingness to serve. As a volunteer firefighter, he dedicated many years to protecting his community, embodying the spirit of courage and sacrifice. His hands, skilled in craftsmanship, built more than just structures; they built bonds and memories that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him. During the Pacific Northwest winters, Roy and Irene found solace in the sunny embrace of Arizona. There, amidst the golden deserts, they indulged their sense of adventure, exploring the terrain in their side-by-side and soaking in the beauty of each sunset. These journeys were a testament to their shared love for life and each other. Roy's smile was a beacon of warmth, capable of brightening even the darkest days. Beneath a tough exterior lay a heart of gold, one that beat with compassion for all living creatures. His love for animals was matched only by his willingness to extend a helping hand to those in need, often giving the very shirt off his back. He was a quiet philanthropist, supporting various charities and spreading kindness wherever he went. Roy's legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Irene, his children Leah and Dale Whipple, and his brother, Steve. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and a great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his spirit of love and resilience. In honor of Roy's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to celebrate his life—a life that touched so many with its kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. As we bid farewell to Roy, let us remember him not in sorrow but in gratitude for the gift of his presence. His journey on this earth may have ended, but the memories he created and the love he shared will endure, lighting the way for all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Roy, and may your spirit soar free.
