LeRoy Bernstien

LeRoy Bernstien, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, at the Traverse Care Center under the compassionate care of Moment Hospice in Wheaton, MN. Born on March 19, 1955, in Lisbon, North Dakota, LeRoy lived a life marked by warmth, kindness, and a steadfast commitment to those he loved. LeRoy was the cherished son of Henry and Beverly (Sveum) Bernstein. Although his parents, as well as his brother Dave, sister Elaine and her husband Danny Thayer, sister-in-law Loretta Bernstein, niece Bailey Bernstein, long-time companion Judy Kamath, and his son Steven, have preceded him in death, their memories were ever-present in his heart. He shared his life with Janell Jacobson, with whom he married in 1980. Together, they raised three children, including their beloved son Steven, who left this world too soon. LeRoy's life was further enriched by his enduring partnership with Judy Kamath from 1990 until her passing earlier this year. LeRoy is survived by his loving family: his brother Richard Bernstein, brother Robert (Ronna) Bernstein, sister Eileen Bradt, and sister Shirley Johnson. He leaves behind his devoted children, Danielle Bernstien of Brooklyn Center, MN, and Derek Bernstien of South Fargo, ND. His nieces and nephews, Angela (Nate) Andrajack and Bobbie (Chris) Safar, held a special place in his heart. LeRoy was the proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren—Connor, Hunter, Taylor (Aaron), Tessa (Jordyn), Kennedy (Jack), Labaan, Ayaan, Aliyah, Aadan, Anisa, Layla, Zakariya, Hamza, Kayson, Alyssa, Hunter—and a great-grandfather to three precious great-grandchildren, William, Emmelene, and Haidyn. A graduate with a GED, LeRoy spent his career as a handyman, always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and family, particularly with concrete work alongside his brother. His work was a testament to his dedication and skill, but it was his hobbies that truly defined his spirit. LeRoy found joy in fishing, gardening, and could often be found tinkering in his garage, fixing things for friends or simply crushing cans—a simple pleasure that brought him contentment. LeRoy's life will be celebrated on September 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Canaan Moravian Church Cemetery, where those who loved him will gather to honor his memory and the legacy he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests making a donation to a charity of your choice in LeRoy's name, allowing his spirit of generosity and kindness to continue to touch lives. LeRoy Bernstien will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and his ability to find joy in the simple, yet profound, moments of life. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his life.
