Leonie M

May 8, 1957 — January 31, 2026

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Leonie M, who left this world on January 31, 2026, at the age of 68. Born in the vibrant city of Perth on May 8, 1957, Leonie was a remarkable woman who lived a life full of adventure, creativity, and warmth. She departed this life surrounded by her beloved collections of books and crafts, a testament to her enduring passions. Leonie was the cherished daughter of George and Peggy, who predeceased her, along with her sanity, finances, and ideals. Despite the challenges life presented, Leonie embodied resilience, often joking that she graduated from the "School of Hard Knocks." Her military service was a testament to her strength and courage; she served and survived, bringing a unique perspective and determination to her life’s journey. Though she was married to herself, with a self-proclaimed motto of "once bitten," Leonie found companionship in the many friendships she cultivated along the way. Her friends were invaluable to her, providing a warm circle of support and laughter. Leonie’s career path was marked by hard work, yet she always found time for her passions. Her involvement in craft clubs, travel clubs, and as a tip shop member, highlighted her zest for life and community engagement. She delighted in papercraft, travel, sewing, and a collection that spanned from dust ablets to Lego and random Disney memorabilia. Her home was a sanctuary where creativity and a touch of whimsy flourished. A woman of many qualities, Leonie was known for her sharp wit and love for sarcasm, embracing it as a form of humor she held dear. She enjoyed the rain, though not the accompanying cold, and found humidity quite draining. Yet, it was her love for people, and the friendships she valued, that truly defined her essence. Leonie leaves behind a tapestry of memories, captured in a multitude of photographs from her travels and in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by the bills she left behind, a testament to a life well-lived, and her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her spirit of adventure and creativity. In her own words, Leonie M was a "smart arse," a description she wore with pride and one that brought joy and laughter to those around her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the moments shared, the lessons learned, and the love that was abundantly given. A celebration of Leonie’s life will be held in a manner befitting her vibrant spirit, with stories, laughter, and perhaps a touch of rain, but none of the cold. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Leonie’s memory by embracing your own creativity, treasuring your friendships, and perhaps enjoying a good dose of sarcasm – just as she would have wanted.
