Leonard Lewis Moore

Leonard Lewis Moore, a cherished father, devoted grandfather, and proud U.S. Marine veteran, passed away peacefully in his home in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 24, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on November 4, 1944, in Edwards, Mississippi, Leonard was the beloved youngest child of Joseph Sr. and Curaesee (Hull) Moore. Leonard's life was a testament to the power of resilience, dedication, and love. Growing up as the youngest of 13 children, he was nurtured in the close-knit community of Edwards, where his journey in education began at Little Zion Missionary Church. His passion for sports led him to Utica Junior College, where he excelled on the baseball field. Leonard continued to pursue his love of sports and education at Jackson State University, where he not only earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education but also proudly played on the university's football team. A true patriot, Leonard answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. As a Rifleman, he distinguished himself and was awarded the Rifle M-14-Expert Badge, Pistol.45-Marksmanship Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and twice received the Good Conduct Medal. His exceptional service was recognized with a Letter of Commendation, and he was honorably discharged, carrying with him the pride and values of a Marine. Leonard's life was enriched by his family, who were the heart of his world. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Jana Davis and Dranoel Moore, his bonus children, Debbie Holloway and Melvin Eades, Jr., and his cherished granddaughter, Alyssa Davis. His legacy extends to a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including Bonnie Moore Shelton, Ruby Jacquline Moore, Ollie Cole Shelby, and Verba Ann Moore, who will forever hold him in their hearts. His sisters-in-law, Ruby Mae Moore and Eula Moore, also remain to honor his memory. Leonard cherished his family, who were his pride and joy, and his profound impact on their lives is a testament to his character. Special thanks are extended to Rebecca Ann Moore, whose love, prayers, and support were a cherished part of Leonard's life. Although Leonard is preceded in death by his parents and many siblings, his spirit and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide and inspire those he leaves behind. His life was a celebration of love, kindness, and service, and his memory will forever be treasured by all who knew him. In keeping with Leonard's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Leonard's memory are encouraged to make donations to a charity of their choice. Leonard Lewis Moore's legacy of love and service will endure in the hearts of his family and friends, and the impact of his life will continue to resonate through the lives he touched.
