It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard Joseph Reuter, affectionately known as Lenny, who departed this world on July 1, 2026, due to natural causes. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on November 19, 1946, Lenny was the beloved son of George and Nancy Reuter, both of whom predeceased him.
Lenny's journey was marked by dedication, bravery, and an unwavering commitment to family and country. A proud graduate of Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City, Lenny went on to serve his nation with valor in the U.S. Marine Corps from April 1966 to April 1969. During his time in Vietnam, he was awarded two Purple Hearts and various other medals, a testament to his courage and sacrifice.
After his military service, Lenny embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a diesel mechanic with Cummins Sales and Service in Rialto, California, dedicating over 30 years to his craft. Known for his expertise and dedication, he was a respected figure in his field.
Lenny was a man of many passions. He found joy in restoring old classic cars and Jeeps, a hobby that reflected his meticulous nature and love for craftsmanship. His commitment extended beyond personal interests as he served as Post Commander of the local VFW and was an active member of the American Legion, where he forged lifelong friendships and continued to serve the veterans' community.
In his personal life, Lenny was a beacon of warmth and kindness. Lenny loved cooking for friends and family. Those who knew him will remember his generous spirit and willingness to help anyone in need. He was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Bernice, with whom he celebrated a loving marriage since February 14, 1989. Leonard's family was his pride and joy, and he delighted in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Lenny's legacy lives on through his wife, Bernice Reuter, his children, Leonard (Butch) Reuter Jr., and Nanci Mehta and her husband Rouzaan Mehta. He is also survived by his sister Anne Reuter, stepdaughter Angelia C. Lopez, and son-in-law Fred Lopez.
He leaves behind five adored grandchildren: Damon Mehta, Donavon Mehta, Delani Mehta, Kirsten Lopez, and Kayla Lopez.
The family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support received during this challenging time. Leonard will forever be remembered as a loyal friend, a loving husband, a doting father, and a proud grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
