On July 1, 2026, the world lost a truly remarkable soul, Leonard J. Reuter, affectionately known as Lenny, who passed away peacefully from natural causes at the age of 79. Born on November 19, 1946, in New Jersey City, New Jersey, Lenny was the beloved son of the late George and Nancy Reuter.
Lenny's life was a testament to service, dedication, and love. After graduating from Snyder High School in June 1964, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Marine Corps in April 1966. Serving valiantly in Vietnam, Lenny's courage and commitment were recognized with numerous commendations, including two Purple Hearts, and other awards. He was honorably discharged in April 1969, carrying with him the deep respect of his fellow servicemen.
In 1989, Lenny found the love of his life, Bernice, and they married on Valentine's Day, embarking on a journey filled with love and companionship that spanned nearly four decades. Together, they built a family and a life that was rich with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Lenny was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
Lenny's legacy lives on through his wife, Bernice Reuter, his children, Leonard (Butch) Reuter Jr., and Nanci Mehta and her husband Rouzaan Mehta. He is also survived by his sister Anne Reuter, stepdaughter Angelia C. Lopez.
He leaves behind five adored grandchildren: Damonn Mehta, Donavon Mehta, Delani Mehta, Kirsten Lopez, and Kayla Lopez.
Lenny's career at the Cummins Sales and Service Center in Rialto, California, was marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated and reliable professional whose warmth and humor brightened their days.
Beyond his work, Lenny was a man of many passions. He found joy in restoring classic cars and Jeeps, a hobby that combined his love for history and craftsmanship. His personal garage was often filled with the sounds of engines and the laughter of friends who shared his enthusiasm.
A man of the community, Lenny served as Post Commander of the local VFW and was an active member of the American Legion. These organizations were more than just affiliations; they were extensions of his lifelong dedication to supporting his fellow veterans and fostering camaraderie among those who served.
Lenny's home was always open, his kitchen a place where the aroma of delicious meals and the sounds of laughter mingled warmly. His generous spirit and willingness to help anyone in need were hallmarks of his character, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A memorial service to honor Lenny's extraordinary life will be held on August 17, 2026, at 9:30 AM at the Riverside National Cemetery, located at 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA, 92518.
