Leonard Clarence Leiviska
February 6, 1949 — March 5, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Leonard Clarence Leiviska, lovingly known as Lenny, who departed this world on March 5, 2026. Born on February 6, 1949, in Ely, Minnesota, Lenny slipped away peacefully at home, surrounded by the family who cherished him dearly, after a courageous battle with illness.
Lenny was the beloved son of Johan and Sylvia (Tappa) Leiviska, who predeceased him, as did his son Shayne Leiviska. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Linda, and his loving sons, Jeremey and Andy. He leaves behind daughters-in-law Renee and Stephanie, and five cherished grandchildren: Ben, Peach, Evie, Jack, and Gabe, who were the light of his life. Lenny's extended family and many close friends also mourn his loss but celebrate the indelible mark he left on their lives.
Lenny's journey began in Ely, where he graduated from Ely High School in 1967. He then pursued an education in electrical motor repair in southern Minnesota, equipping him with skills that would serve him throughout his varied and successful career. A proud veteran, Lenny was drafted into the United States Army and served his country with honor from 1969 to 1971, including a tour in Vietnam. There, he bravely took on roles as part of an ambush squad and later as a crew chief in the 170th Assault Helicopter Company. His stories of camaraderie and resilience were shared with warmth and humility.
His career path was as diverse as it was dedicated. Lenny worked at the Reserve Mining Company in Ely before moving his family to Rockford, Illinois, to join Rockford Electric. Eventually, Minnesota called him home, where he contributed his talents to Northstar Steel and later retired as a Class A Machinist and Millwright at Honeywell Aerospace in 2016.
Known for his boundless kindness and gentle demeanor, Lenny had a knack for making everyone feel welcome. His humor was a balm to many, always ready with a joke to lift spirits. A man of profound faith, Lenny found solace and strength in his relationship with Jesus.
Lenny was a lifetime member of the VFW, a testament to his enduring commitment to his fellow veterans. His faith community and the comfort he drew from it were constants throughout his life, guiding him through both joyous and challenging times.
In his leisure, Lenny was happiest when tinkering in his garage or embracing the great outdoors. Whether camping with his sons in his younger years, fishing, or hunting in the woods, he relished nature's simplicity. Lenny's property in Webster, Wisconsin, became a cherished retreat, especially with his grandson, Jack, by his side.
His dedication to family was unparalleled. Lenny was a fixture at his grandchildren's sporting events, cheering with pride at basketball, softball, trapshooting, and ice hockey. He never missed a chance to support his Fargo grandchildren during their soccer games in the Twin Cities, where his enthusiastic presence on the sidelines was a constant source of encouragement.
A service to celebrate Lenny's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at Andy's home, 557 Quant Ave N, Lakeland, MN 55043. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital for their compassionate care and to Isiah Fravel from Shepard of the Valley Church for providing comfort and reassurance during Lenny's final days.
Lenny's legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Though he is greatly missed, his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, reminding us to live with kindness and cherish every moment.
