Leonard Brunt Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. Born on July 1, 1954, in South Haven, Michigan, Leonard was the cherished son of Mrs. Rosie Lee (Rice) Brunt and Leonard Brunt Sr. Leonard grew up in a bustling family, surrounded by the love and camaraderie of his sisters and parents. He attended Thornton High School, where he forged friendships and laid the foundation for his future endeavors. Throughout his life, Leonard worked with dedication and integrity, serving as a delivery driver for Sears and as a machine operator for several companies, including Consumer Concrete Corporation, Fennville Fruit Cannery, and the Pero Family Factory. His work ethic and commitment were admired by colleagues and friends alike. A man of many interests, Leonard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep passion for cars and loved nothing more than gathering his family and friends for a good barbecue. His vibrant personality and infectious laughter made these gatherings memorable for everyone involved. Leonard had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and his kindness and generosity touched countless lives. Leonard was predeceased by his sisters, Betty Stanford, Joanne Brunt, Evie Young, Janet Christie, and his grandson, Raymaz Scott. He is survived by his devoted fiancé, Ms. Theresa McAllister, and his six children: Quincy Washington and Latasha Washington of Robbins, Illinois; LaShonda Washington of Atlanta, Georgia; and Leonard, Romond, and LaToya Shavers of St. Paul, Minnesota. Leonard's legacy of love and warmth extends to his 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who will continue to cherish his memory. He is also survived by his six loving sisters: Evelyn Hawkins and Jacqueline Potts of Maywood, Illinois; Betty Johnson of Springfield, Missouri; Ora Harrison of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; Tina Houston of Red Wing, Minnesota; and Connie Scales of Sauk Village, Illinois. Each of these women held a special place in Leonard's heart, and he in theirs. In honor of Leonard's compassionate spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice. This gesture will serve as a tribute to his lifelong commitment to helping others and making the world a better place. Leonard Brunt Jr.'s life was a testament to the power of love, generosity, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those he touched.
