Leona Nunez Prats Alexander

Born on August 25, 1938, in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Leona was a beacon of love and resilience. Her journey was marked by a deep affection for her family, an unwavering work ethic, and a passion for life's simple pleasures. Leona was the cherished daughter of Leon and Agnes Nunez, whose nurturing spirits shaped her into the remarkable woman she became. She grew up surrounded by her siblings Leon Nunez Jr, August Nunez, Nelson Nunez Sr, and Agnes Nunez Luchardi, all of whom predeceased her and are now reunited with her. In 1955, Leona married her first love, Vincent Paul Prats Jr, and together they embarked on the extraordinary journey of parenthood, raising nine wonderful children. Her life, though touched by sorrow, was enriched by the love she gave and received. After Vincent's passing, Leona found love again and married William Alexander in the early '80s, continuing to expand her family and heart. Leona is lovingly remembered by her surviving children: sons Kevin Prats Sr and Anthony Prats Sr, and daughters Wanda Carley, Charlotte P Serigne, and Cotty Gonzalez. Her legacy lives on through her 38 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love and values she instilled in her family. Her family was her greatest joy, and she celebrated every new addition with unbounded happiness. Throughout her life, Leona embraced her role in the community as a dedicated server before transitioning to a fulfilling career in culinary work within local hospitals and nursing homes. Her commitment to her work was surpassed only by her love for music and dancing, passions she shared with those around her. In her later years, she found joy in playing bingo, a pastime that brought her laughter and new friendships. Leona was preceded in death by her beloved parents, siblings, her first husband Vincent Paul Prats Jr, her second husband William Alexander, and her children Melissa and Ann Sardi, Russell Joseph Prats Sr., Vincent Frank Prats, and Brian Leon Prats. She also leaves behind the cherished memories of her grandson Russell Joseph Prats Jr, known fondly as Bubba, and great-grandson Baby Matt. Leona's life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and an enduring spirit that touched everyone she met. Her warmth, kindness, and strength will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
