Leon West Jr., a loving father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on July 14, 2026, at the age of 71. Born in Chicago, IL, on February 18, 1955, Leon was the beloved son of Frankie and Leon West Sr. A man of many talents, Leon was known for his warmth, generosity, and his ability to touch the lives of everyone he met. He was celebrated for his culinary skills, particularly his signature "West burgers," which he lovingly prepared for family and friends. Leon’s kitchen was a place where love was the main ingredient, and his meals were a testament to his caring nature. Leon had a brilliant mind and a passion for teaching. He found joy in playing chess, sharing his strategies with others, and enlightening those around him with easier methods to understand math. He was a patient teacher to his grandchildren, Amari and Jayden, often helping them with their homework and instilling in them the same love for learning that he cherished. His career was diverse and impactful. Leon worked at Harold's Chicken as a cook and later contributed his skills to Saint Therese Hospital in Waukegan, IL. His commitment to service continued with Catholic Charities Meal on Wheels in Waukegan, where he dedicated his time to ensure others were cared for and nourished. Leon was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved watching scary movies, solving sudoku puzzles, and reading. His inquisitive nature and thirst for knowledge inspired those around him. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Shaniqua, his son-in-law, Troy, and his stepsons, Michael and Tavares. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Amari and Jayden, who brought immense joy to his life. Also his first wife Twila. Leon was a man with a big heart, known for his understanding and non-judgmental nature. He embraced everyone with open arms and showed unwavering compassion, making him a beloved figure in his community. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Leon West Jr. will forever be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, and the love he shared with everyone he met. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends.
