Leon Telford Rose Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on January 14, 1943, in the close-knit community of Harkers Island, NC, Leon was the beloved son of Telford Rose and Nancy Ann Rose, who predeceased him, along with his siblings Annie Lee, Juanita, Vonda, Charles, Dallas, Pete, Jack Belva, Frances, and his brother-in-law, David Wells, who was like a brother to him.
Leon is survived by his cherished wife, Mary Lou Rose, with whom he shared 64 beautiful years of marriage. Their life together was a testament to enduring love and partnership. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and strength in his children, L.T. Rose Jr., David Rose, and April Rose Hart, along with her husband Eric Hart. His sister, Nancy Well of Harkers Island, NC, carries forward the family's enduring bond.
Leon was a proud grandfather to Brandon Rose, Billy Miller, Tyler Hart, Travis Rose, and Lindsey Hart. His great-grandchildren, Zoe Miller, Grayson Everheart, Greyson Rose, Kenton Rose, Hudson and Maci Miller, and Landon Hart, were the light of his life. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
A man of many talents, Leon attended Harkers Island School before embarking on a lifelong career as a waterman, welder, and a true jack of all trades. His skill and dedication were admired by all who knew him. Leon was a lifetime member of the NRA and an avid hunter, passions that he pursued with great enthusiasm and shared with his family and friends.
Leon’s life will be celebrated on July 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Union Baptist Church, located at 6365 Church Street, Chincoteague Island, VA 23336. His family invites all who knew him to join in honoring his life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Leon’s generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
