In Loving Memory

Leon Hill Sr.
January 8, 1962 — June 1, 2026
In loving memory, we celebrate the life of Leon Hill Sr., a devoted family man and cherished friend, who transitioned at his home on June 1, 2026. Born on January 8, 1962, in the quaint town of Buckatunna, Mississippi, Leon was the beloved son of the late Albert and Hattie Hill.
Throughout his life, Leon embodied the virtues of hard work, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family. As a laborer, he took on various roles, demonstrating an exceptional work ethic and a resilient spirit. His industrious nature was not just a characteristic but a legacy he passed down to those who knew and loved him.
Leon found his life's great love in Gwendolyn Leverette, with whom he shared a union marked by profound mutual respect and affection. Together, they nurtured a family that became the center of Leon's world. Though his parents, son Gerry Loper, sister Delois Hill, and brother Edward Lee Hill predeceased him, Leon's legacy endures through his sons, Leon Hill Jr. (Carla), Byron Hill (Renee), and Kacetia Johnson (Ashley), as well as his dedicated daughter-in-law, Letha Loper. His family extends further through his cherished siblings, Jessie Caver (L.W.), Susie King, Albert E. Hill (Joyce), John Grice, Lee-Dale Hill, Alfred Hill (Sheila), Lampert Lockhart, Willie Lee Hill (Vera), James Hill (Gracie), Albert Franks, and Leroy Hill (Ann).
A proud grandfather, Leon was blessed with 15 grandchildren, who brought immense joy and vibrancy into his life. Their presence was a constant source of pride and fulfillment, and he cherished every moment spent in their company.
Leon was an avid fisherman, a passion that perfectly complemented his love for the great outdoors. These pastimes were not just hobbies but an expression of his appreciation for nature's beauty and simplicity. It was in these quiet moments by the water that Leon found peace and reflection.
He will be remembered for his kind spirit and his unwavering love for his family, leaving behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were touched by his generosity and warmth.
A celebration of Leon's life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Turner Funeral Home, located at 402 Spring Street, Waynesboro, MS 39367. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived, to share stories, laughter, and tears, in honor of a man who touched the lives of so many.
As we say goodbye, we do so with heavy hearts, yet we are comforted by the memories of Leon's gentle presence and the enduring impact of his life. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he loved.
