In Loving Memory of Leoleoti Ronafua “Rona” Su’esu’e Laupule
July 23, 1936 - March 6, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Leoleoti Ronafua “Rona” Su’esu’e Laupule, who departed this world on the morning of March 6, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on July 23, 1936, in the picturesque village of Fagatogo, Maoputasi, American Samoa, Rona was a cherished soul whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and cultural pride.
Rona was the precious daughter of Sa’autuli Mulinu’u Tefamoa Fa’otilo of Apia, American Samoa, and Siefua Ropati Saulava Laupule of Fagatogo, American Samoa. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Su’esu’e and Mulinu’u, and her siblings Vaota Peletau, Savea Taitala, and Risifua Malietoa, who now welcome her into the eternal embrace of family.
In 1963, Rona married the love of her life, Frank Soviga Gatoa Tuifale, and together they built a life grounded in faith and family. Frank, who passed away on December 24, 2020, and Rona shared a partnership characterized by mutual respect and unwavering devotion. Their union blessed them with four wonderful children: Atafeamuli (Rob), Fanene Pupufane (Alafua), Ratuamuli Hopapa (Leoso), and Viafa Afa (Nua). Rona's legacy lives on through her 29 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her spirit and the values she instilled in them.
Rona was a pioneer in many respects, graduating from American Samoa College and earning a Bachelor's degree—a remarkable achievement that paved the way for future generations. Her career as an airplane cleaner was marked by diligence and dedication, but it was her role as the First Lady of Holy Cross Samoan Church that truly defined her life’s work. Rona’s steadfast faith and commitment to her community were evident in every song she sang, every meal she prepared, every dance she performed, and every piece of artwork she created.
Rona was known for her loving, caring, and humorous nature. She had an innate ability to bring joy and laughter to those around her, making everyone feel valued and loved. Her vibrant spirit and deep compassion were the cornerstones of countless cherished memories that her family and friends will treasure forever.
A celebration of Rona’s life will be held on March 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Holy Cross Samoan Church, located at 5467 Imperial Avenue. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be available on YouTube. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Holy Cross Samoan Church at Efkssamoa.net, contributing to the "First Lady Ronafua Laupule’s Memorial Fund."
As we say farewell to our dear Rona, we hold onto the special message from her family: "Forever in our hearts, before we meet again." Her legacy of love, laughter, and cultural pride will continue to inspire us all.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her spirit continue to guide us with the same love and grace she bestowed upon her cherished family and community.
