Leo James

Leo James, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this life peacefully in his home on September 7, 2026. Born on February 25, 1945, in Frenchville, Leo was the cherished son of Lewis and Lillian Gagnon. Leo James' life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and love. He graduated from Madawaska High School in 1962, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with accomplishments and service. He married his beloved Nicole Michaud Gagnon on October 18, 1969, a union that lasted over five decades a true example of marriage through sickness and in health and richer or for poorer. He was blessed with three wonderful children: Kim, Peggy, and Glen. Leo James' professional journey was marked by a commitment to excellence and a strong work ethic. He dedicated over 20 years to Fraser Papers, where his diligence and skill were evident to all who worked with him. In 1981, he was asked to take the helm of the family business, Lewis Gagnon and Sons, running it with integrity and passion until 1995. His craftsmanship was well-regarded, particularly in his custom cabinet making and general contracting work. Later, he shared his talents at St. Joseph's Nursing Home while still general contracting. Beyond his professional life, Leo was an active member of his community, serving as a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His strong catholic faith and commitment to helping others were guiding principles throughout his life. Leo's true joy, however, was his family especially his wife Nicole. He relished every moment spent with them, finding happiness in their achievements and milestones. He was a devoted grandfather to Julie, Danny, Megan, Zachary and Shawn, and a proud great-grandfather to one cherished great-granddaughter Olivia. Leo James was predeceased by his parents, his siblings John (who died at birth), Joan, Michael, Richard, Donald, and Rose Marie, as well as his dear wife Nicole and grandson Zachary. He leaves behind his children, daughter in law Angie, grandchildren, and siblings Paul, Lisa, Judy, Jeannette, Norma, Louis, and Susan, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. A service to honor and celebrate Leo James' life will be held on September 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Luce, located at 439 US Route 1, Frenchville, ME 04745. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at the Madawaska clinic and the Hospital in Fort Kent for their compassionate care and support during Leo's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Leo James' memory to a charity of your choice that supports community or healthcare services, reflecting his lifelong values of service and care for others. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, a testament to a life well-lived.
