Obituary: Leland Jackson
On September 5, 2026, surrounded by the loving embrace of his family, Leland Jackson peacefully departed this world at the University Medical Center. Born on February 24, 1935, in Fayette, Mississippi, Leland's life was a tapestry of love, service, and dedication to family and community.
Leland was the beloved son of Ray and Hester Jackson, both of whom predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his cherished wife, Geraldine Jackson, with whom he shared 43 beautiful years of marriage after being wed on June 15, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Together, they built a life filled with love, raising four children. His brother, Ray (Robert) Jackson, sister, Vercia Johnson, and son, Leo Jackson, also passed before him. Leland is survived by his devoted children, Leon (Selbra), Kevin, and Aaron (Patricia) Jackson. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, whose lives he touched deeply.
Leland proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, achieving the rank of E4 while stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a baker, working with Holsum Sunbeam, Harts, and Leidenheimer Bakery. His hands crafted not just bread but also love and kindness.
An active member of Beulah Land Baptist Church for over four decades, Leland was a man of few words but endless warmth. He had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome, his smile and generosity leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. In his spare time, he delighted in landscaping, auto mechanics, body and fender work, and carpentry, always eager to lend a helping hand.
A service to honor Leland's life will be held at 9:00 a.m. on September 19, 2026, at Beulah Land Baptist Church, located at 2436 St. Maurice Ave. The family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Leland's memory.
The Jackson family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, kindness, and support received during their time of bereavement. A special acknowledgment is extended to Mrs. Selbra C.M. Jackson for her dedicated care, guidance, patience, and love shown to Leland.
May Leland Jackson rest in eternal peace, his spirit forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
