It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we announce the peaceful passing of Lela Gordon Schnaufer, a cherished member of our family and community, who departed this life on June 1, 2024, at her beloved home in Weed House, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born on January 27, 1956, in Lamar, Colorado, Lela was a beacon of light and warmth throughout her 68 vibrant years. Lela was the beloved daughter of Victor and Sarah Schnaufer, both of whom predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her dear aunts and uncles, Jesse and Paula Deen, as well as Earl and Jeraldine Schnaufer, who surely welcomed her with open arms. Lela is survived by her devoted cousins: Mike Schnaufer (Dona), Rick Deen (Cecelia), Leslie (Dana), Phillip Schnaufer, Ryan Schnaufer (Heather), and their children, Landon and Lane, who were the apples of her eye. Lela spent her career working at The Longhorn Steakhouse and Goodwill in Colorado Springs, where she was known for her strong work ethic and infectious laughter. Her colleagues often spoke of her uncanny ability to brighten a room with her humor and orneriness, traits for which she will be fondly remembered. A woman of faith, Lela was an active member of the Baptist Church, where she found community and solace. Her life was filled with joyful pursuits, including horseback riding along Colorado's majestic trails, solving intricate jigsaw and word-search puzzles, and embarking on adventures through travel. An avid fan of Western movies, Lela often found herself lost in tales of rugged landscapes and timeless heroes. Music was her constant companion, providing a soundtrack to her life filled with melodies that inspired and soothed her soul. Lela possessed an indomitable spirit characterized by strength and determination. She faced life's challenges with grace and resilience, inspiring everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her sense of humor was legendary, often lifting the spirits of those around her and leaving them with cherished memories of laughter and love. In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Lela's life. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the indelible mark she left on our hearts and the many lives she touched. Her legacy will continue to live on through the love and laughter she shared with us all. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Lela's memory to a charity of choice, reflecting her generous spirit and her enduring commitment to helping others. As we say our final goodbyes, we find comfort in knowing that Lela's spirit will forever remain with us, a guiding light in our own journeys. Rest in peace, dear Lela. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, and you are loved beyond words.
